We want to celebrate Sammy's 5th Birthday with you!
Before Sammy passed away, Steve and I had been talking about how we would celebrate Sammy’s birthday this year, and we were discussing various themes and options for hosting a huge bash. (We had over 135 guests celebrate with us at his 1st Birthday Party, so this 5th one was going to be even bigger!) Although we never took a single day of Sam’s life for granted, we truly didn’t expect that we would plan his funeral instead.
For the past few weeks, we have been brainstorming various ideas on how we can remember Sammy on his birthday and celebrate his life with those who love him. If you attended Sammy’s funeral, you heard two songs written by the Christian songwriter and recording artist Chris Rice. One was “Come to Jesus” and the other was “Go Light Your World”. Battery-operated candles were distributed at the end of the funeral service, and as “Go Light Your World” was played, the attendees were encouraged to do as the song says, “Take your candle, and go light your world.”
We have been watching the tour schedule for Chris Rice for a few years now because we always wanted to take Sammy to hear him in person. The music of Chris Rice had a very calming effect on Sammy, and his music would often make Sammy’s seizures subside—especially the song “Go Light Your World” which he heard often because I had it saved with photos of Sammy as a screensaver on my computer. Also, Sammy owned nearly all of Chris Rice’s CDs. Chris Rice will be performing in concert on Saturday, April 12 at 8:30 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium on the campus of DePauwUniversity in Greencastle, Indiana. The concert tickets are $10 each, and the concert is sponsored by JC/InterVarsity.
Steve and I would like to invite you to join us at the concert to celebrate Sammy’s birthday.This concert is just two nights following Sammy’s birthday, and had he lived, it would have been Sammy’s favorite birthday gift. Steve has been in contact with the organizers of the concert, and they are willing to reserve a block of seats for Sammy Yammy fans who would like to attend the concert and sit together as a group.
*****THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART: If you would like to attend this concert with us, please let me know ASAP so that we can give an approximate headcount to the organizers and enough seats can be reserved for us. Also, we have been tossing around the idea of designing a t-shirt to wear to the concert, so if you are interested in purchasing one of these t-shirts, please let me know that too!
